MIOS Academy

Scientific Independence Charter

The commitment that gives our seal its value: collaboration with industry, without ever compromising the independence of scientific judgement.

Preamble

MIOS Academy is established as an independent scientific authority in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery (MIOS). Its purpose is the advancement, teaching and rigorous dissemination of this discipline, in the service of the international surgical community and, ultimately, of patients.

Collaboration with industry is a legitimate and necessary part of the medical-education ecosystem: it brings the technology, the platform and the resources that make training of excellence possible. This Charter exists precisely so that such collaboration can take place without ever compromising what is essential: the independence of scientific judgement.

This Charter governs all formats and activities of MIOS Academy, including the MIOS Meeting, the MIOS Symposium, the MIOS Cadaver Lab, the MIOS Observerships programmes, the online training platform, and any content or event bearing the «MIOS» or «by MIOS Academy» seal. It is made public as a guarantee to the faculty, the attendees, the sponsors and the scientific community as a whole.

Principles

1

Exclusive scientific control

The scientific programme, the selection of faculty and the educational content are defined and approved exclusively by the scientific committee of MIOS Academy. No sponsor determines, conditions or vetoes the scientific content of any MIOS activity, regardless of its level of sponsorship or the format of the event.

2

Separation between sponsorship and science

The sponsor provides platform, funding and, where applicable, its technology; MIOS Academy provides and safeguards the science. This separation is kept intact across all formats, including single-sponsor MIOS Symposiums and educational content recorded in collaboration with industry: commercial presence never replaces or directs clinical judgement.

3

Transparency and disclosure

All sponsorship is declared visibly and honestly to attendees and users. The conflicts of interest of speakers and faculty are disclosed in accordance with international standards of medical education. The MIOS audience always has the right to know who funds what they see.

4

Technological plurality at the flagship event

The MIOS Meeting remains neutral ground where all commercial houses coexist, including those that compete with one another. No sponsor obtains exclusivity over its scientific content. The plurality of technological solutions before the community is, in itself, an educational value that MIOS protects.

5

Rigour above product

Live surgeries, protocols, clinical cases and teaching materials are selected for their educational value and scientific evidence, never for their commercial alignment. When a technique or technology is presented in a MIOS setting, it is because the scientific committee considers that knowledge of it benefits the surgeon and the patient.

6

Custody of the brand

The «MIOS» seal and the «by MIOS Academy» mention certify compliance with this Charter in any format, local edition or content. MIOS Academy reserves the right not to associate its seal with, or to withdraw it from, any activity or content that breaches the Charter, regardless of who organises or funds it.

Commitment

This Charter binds MIOS Academy, its founding partners, its MIOS Official Faculty and all who operate under its seal. Its express acceptance is a condition for holding the status of official faculty, for organising licensed editions and for sponsoring any MIOS Academy activity.

Scientific independence is not a restriction on collaborating with industry: it is the reason partnering with MIOS Academy has value. A seal that is not for sale is the only one worth sponsoring.
